The HD Tick Logo

Many TV stores advertise 'HD Ready' TV's for sale. The phrase is a source of confusion for lots of consumers, as it means different things in different places. The Australian Digital Suppliers Industry Forum (ADSIF) has an official standard certifying that all TV's displaying the HD Tick logo meet the following requirements:

  • They display 720 horizontal lines (i.e. 720p) or better.
  • The receiver must be a compliant HD digital terrestrial television receiver that is:
    • built-into or integrated with the HD display;
    • registered as a DVB compliant product
    • conforms with the Australian Digital Terrestrial Receiver Standard (current version AS 4933-1 2005);
  • Have an HDMI input that supports HDCP content protection. This is to allow the future display of Blu-ray and HD DVD content, which will provide HD content only through HDCP compliant TV's.
  • be able to decode Dolby AC3 audio transmissions, and;
  • include a multi-channel audio output, with either a consumer optical or electrical digital audio connector, and have a certificate of approval from Dolby Laboratories.
