VGA Connector
Video Graphics Array - The high quality analog video connector found on computer graphics cards, and increasingly on TV's.
Also known as a DE-15 connector, this is the video connection used on almost all computer monitors and provides a high quality analog video connection that screws in place. Usually coloured blue, the connector is found on some newer TV's as a convenient way to connect to a computer. The increasing popularity of Home Theatre PC's (HTPC's) has increased the number of TV's that support this connector.
VGA also refers to a standard PC video resolution (640x480 pixels), but the connector originally designed to support the VGA video format has become synonymous with PC video connections in general, regardless of the video resolution carried. While ubiquitous at present, the VGA connector will eventually be phased out in favour of the DVI connector.
Advantages of VGA
- Provides a high quality analog signal, that is generally (depending on the resolution supported) superior to S-Video and Composite connectors.
- Common connector found in most newer TV's and all PC's.
- Screws securely in place.
Disadvantages of VGA
- Does not carry a digital signal.
