Why Some German Channels Are Blocked Abroad
When traveling outside Germany, you might find that certain shows or sports events on ZDF and ARD are unavailable. This happens because broadcasters only buy the rights to show certain programs within Germany. If you try to watch a geo-blocked stream, you will usually see a black screen or an error message about location restrictions. However, at the time of writing, their main news bulletins and original programming are frequently left open for international viewers.
